Questions about ADR
Still unsure? Our assistant can answer general questions any time, in English or Arabic.
Ask our assistantWhat is the difference between arbitration and mediation?
In arbitration, the arbitrator decides the dispute in a written, reasoned award. In mediation, the mediator helps the parties reach their own agreement, and nothing is decided without everyone's consent.
Can proceedings be in Arabic?
Yes. Proceedings, documents and hearings can be in Arabic, English or both.
Do you act in disputes outside Canada?
Yes, as a neutral only. Outside Ontario, Lutfi Law acts as arbitrator, mediator or investigator and does not advise on, or appear as counsel under, the law of other jurisdictions.
How do you handle conflicts of interest?
No appointment is accepted before a full conflict check. Anything the parties should know is disclosed in writing.
Which rules do you use?
The rules the parties choose, whether institutional rules or an ad hoc procedure tailored to the dispute.
